CALGARY, Alberta (AP) Landon Wilson's baseball background came in handy for the Phoenix Coyotes.

Wilson batted the puck in mid-air to score the tying goal at 8:17 of the third period Tuesday night as the Phoenix Coyotes extended their unbeaten streak to six games with a 2-2 tie against the Calgary Flames.
"I made the baseball team in high school, but they told me I
had to decide between hockey and baseball so I said, 'see you later
guys,"' Wilson said with a chuckle.
Brad May's slapshot from just inside the Calgary blue line hit the glass, deflected back in front of the net and Wilson knocked it
past Flames goalie Fred Brathwaite.
"I had a clear view of the puck and I got good stick on it and
it went over Brathwaite's glove," Wilson said.
Calgary had a power play in the final 1:08 of overtime, but
couldn't beat Coyotes goalie Sean Burke.
Phoenix had its best chance of the game in overtime when Jeremy
Roenick stole the puck in the waning seconds, but his long slapshot
was kicked out by Brathwaite.
"Our whole team is playing really well right now," Wilson
said. "Burkie is playing phenomenal in net, with J.R. stepping up
and battling with their defenseman, that just shows that we're a
team within a team, we're very united."
Wilson was referring a sequence late in the second period. Calgary's Robyn Regehr had a hard hit on Coyotes captain Keith Tkachuk.
Roenick went after Regehr and engaged the Flames defenseman in a
fight, getting an instigating minor, fighting major, and misconduct
for his efforts.
After the game, Roenick expressed his displeasure over that call
in particular, and the work in general of referees Blaine Angus and
Don Van Masssenhoven.
"The referees have to realize that they get rated, too, on their performance and it determines whether they make the playoffs or not," Roenick said.
"In my opinion, it was a poor performance by the referees, they
can say different, but it's true. Some of the calls that were made
out there were not good calls and they have to be better."
Wyatt Smith scored his first career goal as Phoenix (6-1-2-0) extended its unbeaten streak to 4-0-2. The Coyotes also improved to
11-0-4 against Calgary since last losing to the Flames on Oct. 30,
1997.
Rookie Oleg Saprykin and Marc Savard scored for Calgary
(3-5-1-0), which dropped to 1-4-1 at home.
"At home, you want to play real well in front of your fans," Calgary's Cory Stillman said. "By starting off 0-3 here, we're battling just to get back to .500, so are we pressing too much?
Maybe that's what it is."
The Flames took a 2-1 lead with a rare home-ice power-play goal
at 19:46 of the second period.
Valeri Bure took a pass from Saprykin from behind the net and passed it to Savard in front. It was Calgary's second power-play
goal in 38 chances at home.
Phoenix opened the scoring at 3:45 of the first on its first
shot of the game. May sent a pass ahead to Smith and the rookie
center beat Brathwaite with a wrist shot.
Calgary pulled even at 6:47 as Bill Lindsay raced up the right side uncontested before stopping at the faceoff circle and sending a cross-ice pass that Saprykin chipped in over Burke.

Bure extended his scoreless streak to 24 games, dating back
to last season. ... Phoenix is 18-5-6 in October over the last three seasons. ... Flames left wing Dave Lowry played in his 900th career game. ... Calgary's Clarke Wilm (torn nose cartilage) and Brad Werenka (broken sinus bone) both were wearing full face shields for the first time.
