STARKVILLE, Mississippi (Ticker) -- Jennifer Fambrough scored 21 points and No. 16 Mississippi State used an opportunistic defense to cruise to an 88-68 victory over Georgia Tech.

LaToya Thomas collected 19 points and 15 rebounds for the Lady Bulldogs (4-1), who forced 30 turnovers, including 10 by Tech guard Niesha Butler.

Fambrough's jumper gave MSU a 28-18 lead with 4:13 remaining in the first half. Mississippi State shot just 37 percent (15-of-41) in the period but nevertheless opened a 36-26 lead. That was because Georgia Tech was sloppy with the basketball, undoing 48 percent (12-of-25) shooting.

A jumper by Milli Martinez pulled Tech within 40-33 with 17:35 to play but State responded with a 14-2 burst as Fambrough and Thomas scored four points each. Seneca Anderson's free throw made it 54-35 with 13:33 left.

The Lady Bulldogs maintained the lead throughout the second half, when they shot 52 percent (16-of-31) and made 18-of-21 free throws.

Meadow Overstreet scored 17 points and Keisha Stringfellow added 10 for MSU, which held a 45-37 edge on the glass and made 15 steals. Anderson had five takeaways and Fambrough and Thomas added four apiece.

Martinez scored 16 points and Sonja Mallory added 15 for Georgia Tech (3-1). Butler scored 13 points.
