OUTLOOK First round: Lost to Texas, 77-61
Not since the 1979 near-title run spearheaded by Larry Bird has Indiana State been back to the NCAA Tournament. Don't expect the visit to last quite as long this year -- though, ironically, the Sycamores open the tournament in Salt Lake City, the same place where the '79 national title game was played.
The Sycamores have a top-50 RPI and a win on the road at Indiana to their credit -- in addition to the regular-season Missouri Valley Conference title. They lost in the conference semifinals, however, and at a No. 12 seed were among the last teams to get into the tournament.
Indiana State is small -- its tallest player is 6-foot-9 -- and that will be a liability against bigger teams. The Sycamores will rely on their motion moffense and are led by MVC Player of the Year Nate Green, a point guard who stands 6-5. Michael Menser, only 5-11 and 160 pounds, is the top 3-point threat, making 45 percent from the field. -- David Kraft, ESPN.com
