First round: Defeated Utah State, 75-67

Second round: Lost to Tennessee, 65-51

Connecticut is a mystery. The defending champion Huskies have the players and play solid defense. Offensively, they are similar to Miami in that they need consistent secondary scoring to support Khalid El-Amin.

El-Amin got worn down this year because defenses tried to shut him down, forcing other players to step up. There were times when Albert Mouring, who leads the Big East in 3-point shooting, would lift his game, but other times Mouring couldn't get the ball because he was overplayed.

Kevin Freeman was given the label of small forward this season, but that shouldn't have changed the way he played the game. Because he is a warrior, it is puzzling to see him taking jump shots on the perimeter.

Connecticut is still a big team that rebounds well. The defense remains strong, although it's not as intimidating as it was last year, when Ricky Moore was guarding the opponent's best player. The Huskies have offensive firepower. The question is, can they get the ball to Mouring, Freeman and, most importantly, Jake Voskuhl? Voskuhl is underutilized offensively. Getting Voskuhl and Freeman off would give them an inside-outside balance, which is what very good teams have.

I don't know if UConn has enough confidence and drive for a return trip to the Final Four. Unless there's an epiphany, I see the Huskies getting to the Sweet 16 round before someone beats them. -- Len Elmore, ESPN
