Dayton playbook: Flying high

Dayton flies at its highest when it's a total team effort. Seven Flyers average at least seven points per game -- guard Tony Stanley leads the team at 14 ppg. Early-season upsets against New Mexico and Kentucky helped get the Flyers off to an 8-0 start, and they haven't looked back, winning the A-10 West title. The Flyers are at their best when Stanley and Brooks Hall are (as Flyer alumnus Dan Patrick would say) en fuego, but those two aren't above taking one for the team and helping big fella Mark Ashman get his.

ANIMATE THIS PLAY DIAGRAM WITH SHOCKWAVE
(A) Dayton uses good ball movement and good movement off the ball to create scoring opportunities and get people open. Here, the action begins with the ball reversal from point guard Edwin Young (42).

(B) The Flyers' standard progression is inside out. The wings look inside for an opportunity to feed the post before shooting or passing back around the perimeter.

(C) Tony Stanley (12) is the Flyers' leading scorer, and he's a big-time threat from outside. But that doesn't mean he's above the team game. Stanley screens little-on-big for center Mark Ashman (34).

(D) Ashman gives wing Brooks Hall (33) a big target inside, and finishes strong. When the inside and outside games are clicking, Dayton is Flying High.
