BOX SCORE
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (Ticker) -- Quentin Richardson, Bobby Simmons and Paul McPherson scored 23 points apiece as No. 19 DePaul crushed host American-Puerto Rico, 114-69, in the opening round of the Puerto Rico Shootout. The Blue Demons (2-0) recorded their highest point total since a 125-93 victory over Loyola Marymount early in the 1991-92 season. They led 65-34 at halftime and were never threatened over the final 20 minutes. DePaul will play 20th-ranked Texas in the semifinals on Friday. It is seeking its first in-season tournament title since claiming the Old Style Classic at home in 1988. Richardson also had 12 rebounds, four assists and a blocked shot while committing just one turnover for the Blue Demons, who were facing American-Puerto Rico for the first time. Freshman Steve Hunter contributed 12 points while grabbing seven rebounds for DePaul, which shot 64 percent (43-of-67) from the field, went 9-of-17 from beyond the arc and held a dominating 43-18 advantage on the boards. Joseph Rodriguez netted 19 points for American-Puerto Rico (0-1), which will battle Arizona State in a consolation contest on Friday.
