NEW YORK -- Jonathan Bender of Indiana and Baron Davis of
Charlotte are among six first-time players in the NBA's slam dunk
contest in Washington on Feb. 10, a day before the league's
All-Star game.
Desmond Mason of Seattle, Corey Maggette of the Los Angeles
Clippers, DeShawn Stevenson of Utah and Stromile Swift of Vancouver
also are scheduled to compete.
Stevenson, a rookie, and Bender, a second-year player, both
joined the NBA directly from high school.
Defending champion Vince Carter of the Toronto Raptors will not
compete because of a knee injury.
The winner gets $25,000, with second place worth $15,000 and
third place $10,000. The three others get $5,000 each.
