Oakley must adapt to young Bulls

SPECIAL TO ESPN.COM

July 16
Charles Oakley
The Bulls will look to veteran Charles Oakley for leadership.
Chicago Bulls GM Jerry Krause is ecstatic about Eddie Robinson, who reportedly agreed to a five-year deal worth $30 million, and the trade he made to get Charles Oakley back in a Bulls uniform.

Krause feels Oakley's experience and veteran leadership will play a big role in the development of Tyson Chandler and Eddy Curry, the diaper dandy high school stars taken No. 2 and No. 4 respectively in the NBA draft. Because it will be a long time before Chandler and Curry will contribute to a winning situation in Chicago, it will be interesting to see how Oakley plays in his role.

Remember, Oakley loves to win and is a gamer. He got into all kinds of controversy with Vince Carter in Toronto. With the Bulls taking pounding after pounding with their young lineup, will Oakley be able to adjust? Will he have the patience to sit and tolerate the losses as they pile up?

There is a big difference between being a fourth or fifth scoring option and now having to be a No. 1 and No. 2 option. In Charlotte, Robinson wasn't called upon to be one of the Hornets' primary options. The same with Oakley in Toronto. It's a dilemma for players who have never been called upon to carry the offensive load. Stay tuned.
