Undrafted players have hard road ahead

SPECIAL TO ESPN.COM

June 28
So many players leaving college early are told they will be first-round picks. These kids get questionable advice when they hear those magical words, "guaranteed contract."

 Charlie Bell
Charlie Bell went to three Final Fours but wasn't drafted.
Their ears perk up, yet the people telling them their draft status simply have no clue. About 90 guys thought they would be first-round draft choices. Unfortunately for them, only 28 had that charming moment on Wednesday night.

"Why Didn't I Listen and Stay in School Team"
Maurice Evans -- Texas
SirValiant Brown -- George Washington
D.A. Layne -- Georgia
Greedy Daniels -- TCU
Zach Marbury -- Rhode Island

Do you think these guys are sorry they didn't stay in school? They gave up the chance to play on the collegiate level next season, where they could have improved their stock. Instead of moving in a positive way, their basketball careers will have to continue either through free agency, competing overseas or in the developmental and minor leagues.

"Who Would Have Believed They'd Be Left Behind Team"
Charlie Bell -- Michigan State
Rashad Phillips -- Detroit
Dean Oliver -- Iowa
Tony Harris -- Tennessee
Kenny Gregory -- Kansas
Casey Calvary -- Gonzaga
Kaspars Kambala -- UNLV

These were seven super performers on the collegiate level. I wish them all the best. They had brilliant moments in the limelight of their respective college programs.
